The inaugural Milford Comicon took place on Saturday, October 18 and it was a huge success. Visitors to the festival donned their favorite anime, pop culture or comic book cosplay, strolling the streets and enjoying what Milford has to offer.
“This was honestly such a blast,” Lex Ditzel posted on social media. “With a little more advertisement earlier in the year I think it’ll be even better next year!”
Businesses saw a busy day as well during the festival.
“What a day! Soon after we opened our doors, we started getting S.L.A.M.M.E.D. Our sincere appreciation to those who patiently waited for assistance, and our gratitude to everyone for being so courteous and considerate of each other when the shop got packed,” Red Bandana, who helped organize the event said. “We couldn’t believe how many of you came out to enjoy a great day in Downtown Milford, with us!”
The event, which was made possible by Downtown Milford Inc., Red Bandana and Dolce Coffee Shop and Bakery, was designed to celebrate comic books, anime, action movies, pop culture and more. Chris Tenbusch, General Manager of Dolce, felt that Milford was the perfect place for this type of convention.
“I have, for the most part, been invested in comic fandom for most of my life,” Tenbusch said. “This is kind of a passion for me and, after attending local cons like Dover, I felt Milfod could use an event like this.”
Organizers say that this will become an annual event and have already begun discussing additions and improvements to the festival.
