On September 30, Tamia Gordon, 20, of Magnolia, died of a gunshot wound. The gun went off when an acquaintance, Chase Washington, 23, recklessly handled it at Gordon’s home. As a result, her family is asking for donations to help with funeral expenses.
“On September 30, our world changed forever,” the GoFundMe reads. “Our baby sister, Tamia Gordon, was tragically taken from us in a senseless act of gun violence. She was only 20 years old. Tamia was a proud sophomore at Delaware State University, majoring in Business Administration and proudly making the Dean’s List. She was full of life, laughter and ambition. Her dream was to open her own pastry shop one day. She loved to bake, to create and to make people smile.”
The fundraising site goes on to say that Gordon’s “dream, her bright future, were cut short far too soon.”
The youngest of seven siblings, the baby of the family, Gordon’s family call her the “heartbeat of their home.
“Losing her so suddenly has left us broken and struggling to process the pain,” the post continues. “She was loving, kind, driven and full of joy, the type of person who could light up an entire room just by walking in.”
The GoFundMe is to raise money for funeral and memorial expenses as well as to support the family with the difficult loss. The family stated that any donation, large or small, would help them celebrate Gordon’s life and give her the “sendoff she deserves.”
“Tamia was a brilliant, loving woman whose future was taken far too soon,” the family wrote. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, prayers and support during this heartbreaking time. In loving memory of Tamia Gordon, forever 20, forever our baby.”
The GoFundMe has raised $6,112 of an $8,000 goal.
“No words can express the pain and loss this has caused my family,” Melitta Berry commented. “Sending my condolences and prayers.”
