The City of Milford has notified residents that there will be a scheduled power outage on Saturday, October 25 from 7 AM to 3 PM. All customers who will be affected should receive a notification letter.
The outage is due to the electric department completing necessary upgrades to improve the reliability and safety of the system. These improvements will reduce future outages and strengthen service in the area. The outage is expected to last eight hours. Work may be completed sooner, but the city asks residents to plan for it to be out the entire time.
If weather or safety concerns require rescheduling, the city will send a notification to those impacted.
“Keep your refrigerator and freezer doors closed during the outage,” Lauren Swain, Economic Development and Community Engagement Director, said. “A full freezer holds food for about 48 hours. Arrange backup power or accommodations if you use powered medical equipment. Charge all devices, have flashlights and batteries on hand, prepare simple meals and check your home security system.”
If your water, heat or internet relies on electricity to operate, they will also not work during the outage. Traffic lights, streetlights and other services may also be impacted in the areas of West Shores, Bayhealth PAM Rehabilitation Center, Windward Grove, Nemours Children’s Health and the southeast Milford water tower. The traffic light at Wellness Way and Cedar Creek Road will not be operational but traffic control will be provided by DelDOT.
All critical facilities impacted by the outage have been notified and backup power plans are in place.
The city also announced that the electric vehicle charging stations in the parking lot of Arena’s and Surf Bagel are currently unavailable. One of the connectors has been damaged, and for safety reasons, both have been turned off until repairs can be completed. Although the issue affects a single connector, the units are electrically linked for DC fast charging which means both are impacted. The city will provide an update once repairs are made.
