
Conservation Community Consulting has announced birding weekends for the fall. Weekends begin in late September and run through mid-November.
Friday, September 28, connect land river and sky with a kayak and boat tour on the Anacostia River in Washington DC with the DC Bird Alliance. On September 26 and on October 19, Broad Creek Paddling Excursions along with Delaware Sea Grant and the Laurel Redevelopment Corporation will offer kayak and canoe tours in Laurel. On October 17, enjoy a sunset seabird safari in Ocean City with the OC Bay Hopper. Click the links to register for any kayak or boat tour.
October 16 through 19 is OktoBIRDfest with Dogfish Head. Join other bird enthusiasts at Dogfish Head and the Dogfish Head Inn for OktoBIRDfest x Dogfish Head for a fabulous fall birding event with off-centered ales. There are boat, bike and foot adventures planned during this popular event. Field trips range from Smyrna to Snow Hill with many opportunities to sample Dogfish Head off-centered ales in Rehoboth Beach and Milton.
The weekend kicks off on Friday, October 16 with a trip to Bombay Hook Natural Wildlife Refuge and other Kent County hotspots. On Friday, October 17, trips include Indian River Inlet and Burton Island along with Chincoteague Bay Birding and Oyster Tasting. Prime Hook Natural Wildlife Refuge and Sunset Seabird Safari are also planned that day.
Saturday, October 18, birding by bike at Cape Henlopen State Park and Oyster Rocks Road to the McCabe Preserve are two events planned. A wildlife photography workshop with Troy Bynum is also planned for Saturday along with a Breakwater & Broadkill River Sunset Cruise. A Tally Rally and Fireside Chat at the Dogfish Inn with the Sussex County Land Trust will end the day.
On Sunday, October 19, Raptor Roundup at Cape Henlopen State Park and the Delaware Botanic Gardens at Pepper Creek are on the agenda. Spaces go quickly so register today by clicking here.
On. November 1, birders are welcome to attend a Smith and Tangier Island Birding Cruise aboard the Elizabeth Joy II which will depart from Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield at 8 AM. The boat will travel to Smith Island in the morning with lunch at Drum Point Market & Eatery. After lunch, the group will cruise to Tangier Island for afternoon birding, returning to Crisfield around 5 PM. Register by clicking here.
