Bayhealth welcomed 33 new doctors to their residency program along with four fellows who will participate in their Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs. The new group was welcomed at a White Coat Ceremony on July 3, symbolizing the beginning of their medical career.
“Transitioning from the short white coat to the long white coat of a clinician marks the beginning of a milestone where knowledge meets compassion and learning becomes leadership,” Terry Murphy, Bayhealth President and CEO, said. “We’re honored to have these clinicians join our growing Graduate Medical Education programs, which are centered around clinician growth, mentorship and high-quality training led by a dedicated team.”
The White Coat Ceremony is significant throughout the medical community. During the ceremony, each resident received a long white coat, a traditional symbol of their commitment ot patient care and the profession. The fellow program was newly added to the ceremony this year. At the ceremony, Bayhealth welcomed six emergency medicine residents, eight family medicine residents, three general surgery residents and 16 internal medicine residents. In addition, two hematology and medical oncology fellows along with two gastroenterology fellows were welcomed.
The residency programs are designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on training under the guidance of experienced medical professionals, ensuring that residents gain the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their chosen specialties. A medical fellowship is completed after residency to gain specialized training in a specific area of medicine. The group represents a diverse range of backgrounds and come from a wide variety of medical schools, bringing fresh prospectives to patient care at Bayhealth.
“Our resident physicians are stepping into a vital role, not just as learners, but as contributors to the health and well-being of our Delaware community,” Gary Siegelman, MD, Senior Vice-President, Chief Medical Officer and GME Designated Official, said. “Our Graduate Medical Education Programs are designed to challenge, support and inspire. And we’re committed to supporting the next generation of physicians and fellows who make a lasting difference, both at the bedside and within the future of healthcare.”
The programs are designed as part of Bayhealth’s ongoing effort to address the growing need for healthcare providers in the area.
