The Milford School District announced that Luke Pierson had been selected as the next principal of Milford Central Academy. A proud Milford alum, Pierson returns home after spending the past 15 years serving students in a neighboring district. Most recently, he served as Assistant Principal at W.T. Chipman Middle School, where he helped lead school improvement efforts focused on student achievement, literacy, and building an inclusive school culture.
Pierson began his teaching career as a high school mathematics teacher before transitioning to leadership roles in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to creating learning environments where both students and educators thrive.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Wesley College, a Master of Arts in Applied Technology in Education from Wilmington University, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education.
Pierson’s commitment to innovation and student success has earned him recognition as a Highlight Teacher for the New Teacher Lab of Mathematics, a Schoology Next Teacher, a Google Certified Educator. He was named DIAA Assistant Wrestling Coach of the Year while coaching at Milford High School. He also helped lead his school to earn Purple Star School designation by implementing systems that better support military-connected students. Among his accomplishments, Pierson designed and implemented a building-wide literacy initiative that resulted in a 29 percent increase in student proficiency on STAR assessments while reducing the number of students performing below the 25th percentile by 26 percent.
Returning to Milford is especially meaningful for Pierson. “Returning to Milford is truly a full-circle moment,” he said. “While I’ve spent the last 15 years serving a neighboring district, my heart has always been in this community. I’ve always been proud to call Milford home, and having the opportunity to serve the students, staff, and families who helped shape my own journey is both an incredible honor and a tremendous responsibility.”
As he prepares for his first year at Milford Central Academy, Pierson plans to focus on listening, building relationships, and establishing a culture where every student can succeed. “Middle school is a pivotal time in a child’s life, and I want every student to feel challenged, supported, and a true sense of belonging,” he added. “I’m excited to work alongside our outstanding teachers as we continue building a culture of continuous growth and excellence. My commitment is simple: Every Student. Every Day. I believe the best schools are built together, and I look forward to listening, learning, and growing alongside this incredible community.”
Outside of school, Pierson enjoys spending time with his two children, golfing with friends, fishing, being with family and loved ones, and relaxing with a good show after a busy day.
