Second Street Players Announces Auditions for 2026 Summer Musical “Gypsy”

Director John H. Hulse has announced open auditions for Second Street Players’ 2026 summer musical, Gypsy. Auditions will take place Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11 at the Riverfront Theater, located at 2 South Walnut Street in Milford.

Auditions will be divided into two groups: a Kids Call for performers ages 9–12 and an Older Teens & Adults Call for ages 16 through 60+.

Children auditioning for the Kids Call will be seen in a group session either Friday, April 10 at 5 p.m. or Saturday, April 11 at 3 p.m. Participants will learn a song from the show with the music director and perform a short dance routine with the choreographer.

Older teens and adults will schedule a five-minute audition slot on Friday, April 10 from 6–9 p.m. or Saturday, April 11 from 4–7 p.m. Those auditioning should arrive dressed comfortably for movement and wear appropriate footwear for dancing.

The production calls for a large cast of performers ages 9–12 and 16 and older. Preference may be given to those available for the full rehearsal schedule beginning April 20. Cast members should also be available for technical rehearsals July 5–9 and must attend all performances scheduled for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from July 10–19, 2026.

Regarded by many theater professionals as one of the finest musicals ever written, Gypsy tells the story of an ambitious stage mother determined to see her daughters succeed while quietly yearning for her own time in the spotlight. Set across America during the 1920s and 1930s, as vaudeville faded and burlesque rose to prominence, the show explores the world of show business with humor, heart and sophistication.

The musical features a celebrated score by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, including iconic songs such as “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You,” “Some People,” “You’ll Never Get Away from Me,” “If Momma Was Married,” “All I Need Is the Girl,” “You Gotta Get a Gimmick,” “Small World,” and “Together Wherever We Go.”

Gypsy is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Tams-Witmark LLC.
