The Second Annual Milford Comicon took place on Saturday, October 17 in downtown Milford. The event was a partnership effort between Dolce Bakery and Coffee Shop and Downtown Milford Inc.
Characters representing comic books, movies, cartoons, anime and video game strolled the streets of Milford. There was also a DJ and costume contests throughout the day.
A comicon, which is short for comic book convention, is a public fan gathering that celebrates comic books, graphic novels and other forms of pop culture. The events are designed to celebrate fandom and culture including television shows, anime, manga, video games sci-fi and fantasy.
Attendees often participate in what is known as cosplay where
they dress as their favorite characters from comics, anime or games. There are often Q&A panels, workshops and vendors who often sell items related to comics or anime.
Costumes can be simple or very elaborate, offering attendees the opportunity to share their passion for a particular comic, video game or anime. Some view comicons as a way to connect to former childhood memories as well.
