The 30th Annual Milford Night Out was a huge success in Bicentennial Park in Milford. Mike Hines and the Look entertained the crowd as they enjoyed free pizza, hot dogs and chicken provided by the Milford Police Department.
“I just want to welcome you,” Chief of Police Cecilia “Cici” Ashe said. “This is a tradition that Milford Police Department has hosted for 30 years and so we are just proud that each and every one of you can come out. Just enjoy the music, enjoy the weather.”
Ashe thanked the men and women in the department who continually patrol the streets, risking their lives to protect everyone in the city.
“This year, we hit historic public safety goals that we set when we came in the door.,” Ashe said. “This year, we’re in double-digit decreases in crime, 21 percent down. So, I think when you compare the work and the product, that we’re putting out on the street, you see that the officers are more engaged. They’re human beings, too. They have families. T/hey need rest., just like all of us do. Please, just every time you see a. police officer, all I ask is that you just say thank you for your service because they do risk their lives. They risk time away from their families to make sure we can sit her today and enjoy the freedoms that we enjoy in this country every single day.”
Hines commended the department and their success.
“That’s fantastic,” Hines said. “We’ve been here three times in the last three months and we’re proud to be here. We’re happy to say we have been together for 41 years.”
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign held on the first Tuesday of August across the country. It is designed to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
Various fire departments and first responders were available at the event to answer questions and provide demonstrations. Other vendors, like WSFS, Milford School District and other Milford area businesses gave away information and gifts to those in attendance
