
If you are looking for a 5k in the area, there are a few planned for the upcoming week with several offering the ability to support local charities. There are races planned in Georgetown, Laurel and Rehoboth.
On August 22, the Second Broad Creek Bash 5k and one mile walk will be held in Janosik Park in Laurel. Formerly known as the Broad Creek Bike & Brew, this race still allows bicycling rather than running or walking. The race has a 9 AM start at the park whose address is 201 Front Street in Laurel. Registration is available online.
On August 23, the 12th Annual Rehoboth Beach Firefightin’ 5k is planned. Packet pickup will be from 5 to 7 PM on Saturday, August 22 where racers can get their bib and t-shirt. Then head straight to the start on race day. The race begins at 8 AM at the Rehoboth Beach Fire Station, located at 219 Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth. Register online.
The 13th Annual Run, White & Blue 5k Run/1M Walk will be held at Del Tech in Georgetown. This is a fun event that benefits scholarships for veterans and first responders and will be held Thursday, September 3, 2026, with a walk/run through the Owens Campus, located at 21179 College Drive in Georgetown. The race begins at 6 PM. Registration is $30 and can be completed up to September 2. The fee is $15 for all veterans, first responders, active military and students until September 2. Registration on race day is $35.
For those who prefer a swim, the inaugural Boardwalk Mile Open Water Ocean Swim is planned for Saturday, August 30 at 8 AM. The start will either be from Queen Street or Grenoble, depending on current. Awards will be presented to the overall male and female champions, overall male and female masters who are 40 plus as well as the top three male and female finishers in the 10-13; 14-19; 20-29; 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+ categories. Awards will be presented within 20 minutes of the final swimmer crossing the finish line.
