Kent-Sussex Industries (KSI) has recognized two individuals whose dedication and determination have made a lasting impact on the organization and the people it serves, naming Jody Clendaniel as Staff of the Fourth Quarter and Kayla Strohmeyer as Participant of the Fourth Quarter for 2026.
Clendaniel, who began his career at KSI as a Direct Support Professional before quickly advancing to Case Manager, was recognized for his commitment to helping participants build confidence, independence, and life skills.
According to KSI, Clendaniel consistently goes beyond his job responsibilities by organizing community outings that enrich participants’ experiences, arriving early to assist with maintaining the Milford facility, and using his experience as a forklift operator to support production operations and train fellow employees on safety procedures.
He has also taken a leading role in KSI’s new Life Skills Center in Milford, where he conducts regular classes on everyday living skills such as cooking and laundry. The program is designed to help participants develop greater independence and prepare for fuller, more self-sufficient lives.
KSI officials said Clendaniel’s compassion and willingness to help others have earned him the respect of both staff members and participants. He is now eligible for KSI’s 2026 Staff of the Year award, which will be presented during the organization’s Annual Dinner on July 9.
KSI also honored Kayla Strohmeyer as Participant of the Fourth Quarter, recognizing her positive attitude, leadership, and determination to pursue her career goals.
Strohmeyer is known for welcoming new participants at KSI’s Milford Skill Development Center and helping them adjust to the program while serving as a source of encouragement for her peers. During her time at KSI, she gained valuable work experience through production assignments while developing teamwork and job-readiness skills.
Recognizing Strohmeyer’s passion for cooking, her case manager encouraged her to apply to the Food Bank of Delaware’s Kitchen School, a 12-week culinary training program for adults with disabilities. After being accepted into the program, she graduated in July 2023 and now works as a direct-hire employee at the Food Bank of Delaware’s Milford Café.
KSI officials said Strohmeyer’s journey demonstrates how vocational training and individualized support can help participants turn personal interests into meaningful careers. She is also eligible to receive KSI’s 2026 Participant of the Year award, which will be announced during the organization’s Annual Dinner on July 9.
Kent-Sussex Industries is a nonprofit organization providing vocational training, employment opportunities, and support services for individuals with disabilities throughout Kent and Sussex counties. The organization works to help participants develop job skills, gain independence, and achieve their personal and professional goals while partnering with local businesses and community organizations.
