A new program at the Milford Wellness Village is offering residents living with chronic health conditions an opportunity to gain practical tools, support and confidence to better manage their day-to-day lives.
The “Living Well with Ongoing Conditions” program is a nationally recognized, evidence-based workshop designed to help individuals cope with long-term health challenges such as anxiety, arthritis, high blood pressure and other chronic illnesses. The free program runs once a week for six weeks and focuses on simple, achievable strategies to improve overall well-being.
Chronic conditions are among the most common health issues facing adults in Delaware, particularly in Kent and Sussex counties where access to healthcare services can be more limited. Conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, chronic pain and mental health disorders often require ongoing management rather than a one-time treatment. For many individuals, these illnesses affect nearly every aspect of daily life. They can impact everything from maintaining employment and managing household responsibilities to sustaining social connections and emotional well-being.
Health experts say the burden of chronic illness is not only physical but also mental and emotional. Fatigue, stress and uncertainty can make even routine tasks feel overwhelming. Many individuals struggle with balancing medications, doctor appointments and lifestyle changes, while also coping with the psychological toll of living with a long-term condition.
Caregivers, too, face significant challenges. Family members and loved ones often take on the role of managing medications, attending appointments and providing emotional support, frequently while juggling their own work and personal responsibilities. This can lead to caregiver burnout, stress and financial strain, particularly when resources or support systems are limited.
Organizers of the Milford program say the workshop is designed to address these challenges by creating a supportive, small-group environment where participants can share experiences and learn from one another.
“This is not a lecture-based program,” organizers note. “It’s a relaxed, interactive setting where people can exchange ideas, learn practical skills and take small steps that make a meaningful difference in their daily lives.”
Participants will focus on strategies to improve energy levels, reduce fatigue, manage symptoms more effectively and maintain independence. The program also emphasizes building confidence and staying active despite ongoing health concerns.
The workshops will be held at the Milford Wellness Village, located on Clarke Avenue. The facility has become a growing hub for integrated health and community services in the region. Designed to bring together healthcare providers, wellness programs and support services in one location, the Milford Wellness Village aims to improve access to care and promote healthier lifestyles for residents across central and southern Delaware.
The “Living Well with Ongoing Conditions” program is offered at no cost and provides multiple scheduling options to accommodate participants. Each session runs weekly for six weeks, allowing individuals time to build habits and apply what they learn between meetings.
Community leaders say programs like this are especially important as the region’s population continues to grow and age, increasing the demand for accessible, preventive and supportive healthcare services.
By focusing on education, peer support and practical tools, the program aims to empower individuals to take control of their health and improve their quality of life—while also easing the burden on caregivers and the broader healthcare system.
Those interested in participating can register through Milford Wellness Village by contacting program coordinator Mona Boyer via email.
