Robert A. Koppenhaver, a lifelong educator and dedicated community member, died peacefully on April 16, 2026. He was 85.
Born April 14, 1941, in Millersburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Alvin and Pearl Koppenhaver. He graduated from Millersburg High School in 1959 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Bloomsburg University and a master’s degree in education from the University of Delaware.
Koppenhaver spent 37 years as a science and math teacher at Milford Senior High School. He also served as a professor in the University of Delaware’s Parallel Program. Even after retiring, he remained committed to education, teaching part-time at Greenwood Mennonite and Epworth Christian schools.
Outside the classroom, Koppenhaver enjoyed studying history, reading, traveling, and attending dinner theater performances with his wife. He was also an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. Deeply involved in his faith, he served as an adult Sunday school teacher and was active in his church community.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol Koppenhaver; his sons, Robert J. Koppenhaver (Mary) and Michael Koppenhaver (Jennifer Montgomery); his daughter, Jennifer Koppenhaver (Matthew Hinkle); his daughter-in-law, Sharon Koppenhaver; multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Larry and Craig Koppenhaver.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, David Lee Koppenhaver.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 1, at the Milford Church of the Nazarene, 11 NW Salevan Place, Milford. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with interment at Milford Community Cemetery.
