Born on July 10, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Irvin’s life was marked by a steadfast commitment to his country, his family, and the values he held dear.
Irvin honorably served in the United States Navy for 20 years, a period that he counted among his proudest accomplishments. His military career reflected a deep sense of duty and patriotism, traits that defined his character throughout his life. A man who had profound respect for the American flag, he ensured it was always treated with the utmost reverence.
Beyond his military achievements, Irvin found joy in woodworking, creating pieces and gifts for his family. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Irvin was known for his generosity and his readiness to assist others in need.
Irvin is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Pierce, and their children: Ron Pierce and his wife Priscilla, Paul Thomson and his wife Nicole, Robert Thomson, and Jean Sauerbaum and her husband George. He will be missed by his eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Daisey Pierce, and eight older siblings.

A graveside with military honors will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 1:00 pm in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.
