If you have a live Christmas tree this year, you may be wondering how to dispose of it once the holiday is over. There are options that will help you dispose of the tree.
If you are on the City of Milford trash collection schedule, trees will be collected on Monday, January 5, 12 and 26 as well as Tuesday, January 20 along with regular yard waste. Trees should be left curbside for collection and free of ornaments or other decorations.
If you prefer to recycle your Christmas tree, DNREC is offering a tree recycling event on January 10 from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Delaware Center for Horticulture parking lot, located at 1810 North Dupont Highway, Wilmington.
If you live in a rural area and have commercial trash collection, contact your trash provider to see how to leave the tree for pickup. Most trash companies view Christmas trees as yard waste.
The tree can also be placed in the back of your yard or against an outbuilding to decay naturally if you don’t want to send it to a landfill.
