At a recent meeting, Milford School District Board of Education recognized the Milford Middle School and Milford Central Academy’s Field Hockey team. The MCA team was undefeated this year.
“I do want to kind of rewind back to three years ago,” Stacey Seitheimer, coach for the team, said. “I came to Milford from Lake and I am here for good. I am not going anywhere, so I am super, super excited about this.”
Seitheimer introduced her volunteer assistant, Tristan Jester, who works with the team every day without getting paid. Cheyenne Pritchard is also an assistant coach.
“I always joke with them that we might not have it all together, but together, we have it all,’ Seitheimer said. “And that is the truth. Three years ago, our eighth graders set foot on the field hockey field as sixth graders and they finished their season with a record of four and six. They scored 12 goals in their ten games.”
According to Seitheimer, the group showed up as seventh graders, set some lofty goals and put the hard work in. The girls attended summer trainings at a local gym and this led to great success over two years.
“This group of athletes is extremely talented, very driven and hard working,” Seitheimer said. “They also possess the intangibles that are going to continue to lead to their success. Not only do they play field hockey, but they play other sports as well.”
Seitheimer stated that the girls finished their last two seasons with an 8-0 and an 8-0-1 record. They outscored their opponents 65 to 6.
”Our goalie, Sophia Daniels, helped lead our team to 13 shutouts in games,” Seitheimer said. “Overt the last two seasons, they have made huge improvements and continue to grow. We truly appreciate their recognition today. They deserve it because they truly put in all of the work and we are super excited to see where the next level takes them.”
Certificates were given to the members of the team.
“I think you again,” Vice-President Matt Bucher said. “We greatly appreciate all the hard work and the time, the effort. We thank you for all your hard work and your commitment to make Milford School District one of the top athletic school districts in the state.”
