At their December 15 regular meeting, Milford School District Board of Education adopted several policy updates with no questions from the public or the board. Some of the changes eliminated policies completely while others added updated wording.
Policy 1002 entitled Parent and Family Engagement updated state codes that the district must follow and added language regarding the district’s commitment to building strong partnerships in the community.
The board eliminated Policy 3301 entitled Policy Statement for Child Nutrition Meals which states the district will sponsor and implement the National School Lunch Act as adherence to those regulations was already included in Policy 3304 and 3304A.
Policy 4102 which covers Employment Procedures for certified and non-certified personnel had changes that appeared to be grammatical as well as language added that the district would require a criminal background check “and other required clearances.” The district has required criminal background checks for some time, but the added wording allows the district to require other checks should they be necessary.
Homebound Instruction and Tutoring, Policy 4209, was deleted from district policy while Death Benefit for Employees, Policy 4317, had a section added regarding payment for vacation and sick leave.
Policy 4327 entitled Retirement Award and Early Notification Compensation had the word “gift” removed and “award” added to the title. Other changes to that policy were grammatical except a section that read “For those retirees providing early notification as requested by the District Personnel Office, a fixed compensation amount of $600,” now reads “All employees who submit their retirement notice to the Director of Human Resources within 6 months of their retirement date will receive an early notification stipend of $600.”
There were changes to Employee of the Year Awards, policy 4330, that removed some of the award categories likely due to changes at the state level.
The board removed Policy 4336 which covered Sabbatical Leave, Elementary School Assignments, Policy 5201 and Policy 5202 Milford Attendance Area.
Policy 5310 School Locker Policy had changes related to grammar and state title updates. Policy 6107 Personal Errands was also deleted from the policy.
All changes were approved unanimously. There were also 14 draft policies presented to the board as a first read. Those will return to the board for a vote at their January meeting.
