Second Street Players held its annual meeting on November 14, 2025, at the Riverfront Theater, where more than 85 members and supporters gathered to review the past year’s achievements and look ahead to the 2026 season.
Board President Tracy Day, who chaired the meeting, emphasized the organization’s mission and continued dedication to community access.
“Our goal has always been to provide enriching and affordable live theater for Milford,” Day said. “We remain committed to nurturing the fine arts—whether onstage, behind the scenes, or in the classroom.”
The evening opened with a short Thanksgiving-themed performance by cast members of the upcoming holiday show, Coney Island Christmas. Attendees then heard a presentation reviewing the organization’s productions and outreach over the past year, which attracted more than 5,000 audience members.
The theater highlighted its expanding community presence through programs such as the Summer Theater Camp, participation in the Bug & Bud Festival, First Fridays, and the Milford Halloween Parade. The Riverfront Theater also welcomed outside groups, including the First State Dance Academy for a recital and Mr. Moribund’s Theater of Terror, which celebrated “10 years of Frights and Fun.”
The meeting also showcased set designs from throughout the season and honored the many donors, members, businesses, media partners, and organizations that supported the theater.
A new tradition, the “Spotlight” recognition, debuted this year. The inaugural honoree, Gina Shuck, was celebrated for her outstanding contributions to SSP.
“The Spotlight award allows us to shine a light on individuals who help our theater thrive,” Day noted.
Directors for the upcoming 2026 slate of productions were announced, including Marge Ventura for the “Diary of Anne Frank;” Guy Crawford for “Cheaper by the Dozen;” John H. Hulse for “Gypsy;” Doug James for “Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery;” as well as Alan Lane and Rachel Loper for “Beetlejuice Jr.” The director for “Fruitcakes” will be announced a later date.
Treasurer Steven Haber presented the annual financial report, while Day delivered an update on building improvements. Board elections followed, with five members, with Haber, John H. Hulse, Dan Marabello, Ann Nichols, and Robin Twilley, re-elected to serve. Newcomer Isaac Christensen was also welcomed to the board.
Following the meeting, the Board of Directors provided refreshments, giving attendees an opportunity to celebrate the year’s successes together.
Second Street Players reaffirmed its dedication to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of production. The organization’s work is supported in part by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events through DelawareScene.com.
“We want every performer, volunteer, and audience member to feel welcome here,” Day said. “Theater is for everyone.”
