James “Leroy” Hicks of Harrington has been named KSI’s Participant of the First Quarter for 2025 in recognition of his dedication, leadership, and compassion toward others.
Hicks, who has participated with KSI since 1980, is known for his gentle, mild-mannered personality and willingness to take on a variety of work challenges. He spent 14 years working at a local Wendy’s through KSI’s Supported Employment Program before his eyesight began to decline. Since then, he has contributed to a wide range of tasks at KSI’s Milford center, served as vice president of the participant-led KSI Aktion Club, and continues to mentor and advocate for fellow participants.
“Leroy embodies the spirit of KSI,” said KSI CEO Heath Chasanov. “He brings kindness, reliability, and encouragement to everyone he interacts with. His commitment to helping others succeed truly stands out.”
As part of his recognition, Hicks’s name will be added to a permanent plaque at KSI. He will also receive a personal plaque, a $50 gift card or prize, and a featured photo on KSI’s Participants of the Quarter recognition board. Hicks will be highlighted in the KSI News, receive an automatic invitation to the KSI Annual Dinner, and be featured in the dinner program.
Currently, Hicks also serves on KSI’s selection committee for the Staff of the Quarter awards, continuing to contribute his thoughtful perspective to recognizing others’ achievements.
