The Delaware Small Business Association is helping aspiring entrepreneurs take their first steps toward business ownership with its upcoming “Pathways to Business” information session. The free event, held in partnership with the Delaware Division of Small Business, will take place on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Louis Redding City/County Building in Wilmington.
The session is designed to guide new and prospective business owners through the process of starting and growing a business in Delaware. Attendees will learn about selecting a business structure, obtaining licenses and permits, accessing state and local resources, and connecting with mentors and advisors who can help them succeed.
“Starting and scaling a business is rarely a solo journey,” said a Division spokesperson. “At this info session, we’ll share the pathways — from idea to launch to growth — and connect attendees with the people, programs, and tools that support them.”
Participants will also have opportunities to speak directly with representatives from state agencies, local development organizations, and financial institutions. Many who have attended past sessions say the guidance they received was invaluable.
“I came in with a great idea but no clue where to start,” said Thomas Jenkins, owner of a Wilmington-based catering company. “By the end of the session, I had a step-by-step plan and met mentors who helped me secure my first business license.”
Another past attendee, Monica Reyes of Dover, said the program helped her navigate what can often be an intimidating process.
“I didn’t realize how many free resources are available to small businesses in Delaware,” she said. “The team walked me through the licensing process and even connected me to a business advisor who still checks in on my progress.”
For many entrepreneurs, the event serves as a vital launching point.
“We want every good business idea in Delaware to have a fair shot at success,” said the spokesperson. “Events like this level the playing field and ensure that aspiring business owners have access to the knowledge and support they need.”
Registration for the “Pathways to Business” info session is free, but seating is limited. To RSVP or learn more about upcoming small-business programs, visit business.delaware.gov or call the Delaware Small Business Association at (302) 577-8477.
