Delaware Small Business Development Center has planned several workshops, trainings and online resources for businesses during October. Some of the events are free to attend and designed to help small businesses address common issues they all face.
The month kicks off October 6 with a virtual workshop entitled “Building Your Digital Marketing Plan.” SBDC reminds business owners that the digital presence of a company is usually the first impression customers have of a business. This is an interactive session with Top of Mind Marketing guiding attendees through audits of their online presence and providing a clear framework for future success.
On October 8, 15 and 22, SDBC will offer workshops entitled “Data Assured: Hack Attack Series.” The series is offered as part of Security Awareness Month and will provide a combination of lecture plus hacking demonstrations. On October 8, attendees will learn the skills and sophistication of hacking organizations who operate much like legitimate businesses. The October 15 workshop will provide insight into what a cyber-attack looks like while the October 22 event will offer several live hacking demonstrations. A fictitious hacking organization will attack fictious victims in order for attendees to see both sides of the issue. This is a virtual event that runs from 10 to 11 AM each day.
Learn how to start a business with two workshops planned in October. The first is October 9 at 2 PM and the second October 15 at 9:30 AM. Both are virtual and there is no charge to attend. Presenters will lead you through the essentials of launching a business, providing information on licenses, insurance and funding. Business structures and planning are also explained.
The next workshops planned feature the “Made in Delaware Manufacturing Training Series.” Offered October 9 and 23, the series is designed to help manufacturers strengthen and build their business. The October 9 event provides resources and strategies to scale a manufacturing business for long-term success. The October 23 event will provide information on taking products to market with insights from APEX Accelerators who are experts in government contracting and Delaware export leaders who will provide information on global markets.
Strong credit is one of the most important tools for a small business owner and SBDC will offer a webinar on Understanding and Building Credit. Chase for Business will assist in an informative workshop covering essentials of what credit is, how it works and why it matters. Attendees will also learn how to manage their credit score, how to access and how to understand their credit report.
The month ends with the Grants and Loans Fair on October 28 from 10 to 1:30 PM at The Cambria in Rehoboth Beach. This is a gateway to expert advice, practical education and direct connections to lenders and grant providers. SBDC is partnering with the Delaware Business Times for this event which offers hands-free sessions to help prepare a pitch for investors and grants, understand lending processes and meet organizations who can fund the next move. The cost of the event is $35 and includes lunch, educational sessions and information. The event was rescheduled from October 2 and tickets purchased for that date will be honored on October 28.
