Mr. Moribund’s Theatre of Terror has announced their Summer Screamer at the Riverfront Theatre will feature the 1960 monster movie “Little Shop of Horrors.” Shows are planned for August 1 and 2 with doors opening at 7 PM and the show beginning at 7:30 PM.
“This is the tenth anniversary season of our show,” creator and performer W.J. Walton said. “We’re very excited to bring this Roger Corman classic to our Moribunch audience. This is the original 1960 film, not the 80s musical, and it is a lot of fun, with a special appearance by a very young Jack Nicholson. We chose it to coincide with the upcoming production of the musical which will be on the stage not long after our show.”
The popular event includes a feature screening of the film combined with live performances by the Theatre of Terror cast. The live music and comedy is always great fun, but there are also costume contests for adults and children, raffles, vendors in the lobby and audience participation. Fans of the show, known as “The Moribunch” can also win cereal boxes filled with prizes along with other treats donated by local businesses.
“The raffle will benefit True Colors, a charity aiding homeless LGBTQ+ teens and youth,” Walton said.
Tickets are $8 and only sold at the door. Walton stated that donations are also accepted in addition to the ticket cost.
Starting in 2015, Walton has offered his “Theatre of Terror,” a live show modeled after the classic horror host television programs of the 1950s through today. The performances feature a classic film from the golden age of monster movies, comedy sketches, live music, talent performances, and more. In addition, the show feature a macabre art show, craft vendors, costume contests and audience participation.
