
On June 7, Milford Police Department were called to the Rodeway Inn on North Walnut Street regarding a trespass complaint. Upon arrival, they learned Dieter Smith, 35, of Milford, was supposed to vacant his rented motel room, but was refusing to leave.
When police contacted Smith on the property, he became disorderly with the officers and began to intentionally damage items in the room. After being taken into police custody, a search revealed he was in possession of drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine.
Officers also located numerous materials that were consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine. Officers immediately exited the room and requested DNREC report to the scene to examine items in the room. The materials had not yet been used to create methamphetamine the investigation revealed and DNREC disposed of the items.
Smith was charged with unlawful to knowingly or attempting to operate a clandestine laboratory; resisting arrest; possession, consumption of a controlled or counterfeit substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; criminal mischief under $1,000; disorderly conduct and criminal trespass second degree.
Smith had a presentment at Justice of the Peace Court7 where he was committed to the Department of Correction on $11,500 secured bail. He was ordered to appear in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas at a later date for a preliminary hearing.
