The following was public comment at a recent City Council meeting during the 15-minute period when the public can make comments. Milford Times will occasionally include those comments on the Express Your Opinion page when the comments do not pertain to an agenda item at the council meeting. All opinions expressed here are the opinions of the commenter/writer and may not reflect those of the Milford Times editorial or reporting staff.
I’m here to talk about two separate things. The first is I want to encourage the council to proceed with the Deep Branch Park project. I didn’t have a chance to attend the meeting last week, but I watched part of it until it cut out on me.
I think one of the biggest benefits a local government can give to their citizens are things like parks. They’re beautiful spaces. They encourage outdoor gathering and community. I would really like to see this park develop. The city has listened to its citizens. It’s already purchased the property. It’s obtained grant funding and spent some money already in developing a plan for this park. I saw some of the renderings at the last council meeting, and it looks like a beautiful and thoughtfully designed space with a lot of various recreational opportunities.
I encourage you to proceed in developing this park for the benefit of all Milfordians. I look forward to exploring and using this park in the near future.
Item number two is Thursday, May 1 National Law Day and I believe Eisenhower started it. It reminds us of one of the principles of our country, the rule of law. I would like Milford City Council to adopt a resolution affirming its commitment to this foundational principle, that all persons are entitled to due process when accused of a violation of law, and that no person shall be incarcerated without the opportunity to defend themselves in a court of law.
Thank you.
