On May 8, several local residents will go “Over the Edge” to support Special Olympics Delaware. Participants descend 17 stories, 222 feet, down the 300 Delaware Avenue building in downtown Wilmington. This is the 14th annual event which runs from 9 AM to 5 P.
“Each “edger” must raise a minimum of $1,250 to secure their spot on the ropes, supporting year-round programs and competitions offered to athletes with intellectual disabilities,” Alex Seymore, Director of Media Relations, said. “The event will be streamed live on the Special Olympics Delaware YouTube channel.”
Local participants this year include Carly Favoroso, Miss Milton’s Teen DE; Cortney Wimer, Milford School District; and Stephanie Ball, Christi Boots, Melissa Dalgewicz, Grace Dutton, Laura Fariello, Rebecca Greig, Katie Hancock, Ashley Hastings, Megan Hicks, Heather Hitchens, Trista Jester, Travis Moorman, Justina Ramdat, Kimberly Thompson, Jessica Young, all of Lake Forest School District.
“Since its inception, “Over the Edge” has raised more than $1.7 million to benefit the organization’s mission of inclusion, empowerment and athletic excellence,” David Halley, President of CEO of Special Olympics Delaware. “It isn’t just about the thrill, it’s about the heart behind every descent. Each person who steps off that rooftop is showing support for the athletes who overcome challenges every day with determination and joy.”
