William Cubbage III, an avid outdoorsman, passed away on August 12, 2026. He was 67.
Born in Milford on February 3, 1959, Bill worked in construction for more than 40 years. He was mechanically minded and could fix or operate just about anything. Legend has it, he could scratch the shoulder of one of the laborers with the bucket of an excavator.
A true outdoorsman, Bill spent many years hunting with his dogs. He also enjoyed fishing, crabbing, trapping and gardening. He had a wealth of knowledge about the outdoors that some say could rival Daniel Boone or Davey Crockett. He took pride in the skills he learned over the years. He was always happy to share those skills and even walk you through the garden to show you his prized tomatoes or pole beans.
In addition to his skills outdoors, Bill loved softball, bowling and golfing with his sons and friends. He was a longtime fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, rarely unable to give opinions on his favorite teams.
More than anything, Bill enjoyed time with his family and friends. He had a strong personality, a quick opinion and a straightforward way of saying what he thought. But he also had a generous nature and was the person you could call when you needed a hand, or when you simply needed someone to show up. He will be remembered for his loyalty, honesty, sense of humor and the lasting friendships and family bonds he built throughout his life.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Donna Cubbage; his mother, Frances Benson; his sons, William Cubbage IV and Kevin Cubbage; William IV’s wife, Stephanie; grandchildren, Dylynn and Dominik Cubbage; and Dominik’s girlfriend, Jessica Brown. He is also survived by Uncle Jim Cubbage; sisters, Carol Brown, Donna Legates and Linda Watkinson; Linda’s husband, Joe; Donna’s son, Robert Cubbage who was like a third son to him; Robert’s wife, Christine; and their son, Ryver. He is also survived by Linda and Joe’s daughters, Fawn, Brooke and Meadow Watkinson.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Cubbage, Jr.; Aung Dorothy Pratt and Uncle Wilson Pratt.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 20 from 6 to 8 PM and on Friday, August 21 from 10 to 11 AM at Berry Short Funeral Home, 217 East Main Street, Felton. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21 at 11 AM with interment at Barrett’s Chapel Cemetery.
