Lamont Wilson, who owns a landscaping company, had his own garden recognized for the September Garden of the Month by the Milford Garden Club. Each month the Beautification Committee chooses an outstanding garden to recognize.
“When Lamont is not at work, he can be found tending his unique garden,” Linda McDevitt said. “He resides in one of the two relatively narrow city lots and the adjacent one is entirely dedicated into what he considers his own “Garden of Eden.” To him, his garden is like his sanctuary, it is both his hobby and a source of stress relief.”
Within his garden, which is located at 3 High Street in Harrington, Wilson has created distinct areas with lush green grass bordered by small white stones interspersed with sapphire glass pebbles as an alternative to mulch. Both medium and large stones are placed to accent plants, create paths and form the edges of his garden. One plant often used throughout the garden is the deep red hard hibiscus.
Other plants found in the Wilson garden are dragon breath coxcomb, knockout roses, lily of the valley, dahlias, petunias and rock trumpets climbing on trellises. There are also water features, seating areas, a gazebo and numerous small yard ornaments plus various shapes and sizes of containers filled with colorful flowers. Dwarf blue spruce and pigmy barberry likewise add interest, color and texture to the garden along with other plants.
The Milford Garden Club accepts nominations for the Garden of the Month from April through September. Winners receive a sign to place in their yard and bragging rights for the month. The Milford Garden Club meets the first Wednesday of each month at 10 AM in the Parks and Recreation Building, 207 Franklin Street, Milford. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
