Two Lights for Tomorrow, a nationwide commemoration of the famous midnight ride of Paul Revere, is planned for Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20.
“Two Lights is encouraging everyone to display two lights in windows throughout the state,” Margaret Hughes, Coordinator of the DE250 celebration, said. “This includes government buildings, schools, homes, small businesses and more.”
On the night of April 18, 1775, Paul Revere and William Dawes rode out from Boston to alert their fellow patriots of the movement of the British regulars. The signal used to let the troops know the British were travelling via the Charles River, was two lights in the tower of Christ Church. Other riders joined as well, creating a network across Massachusetts.
Two Lights for Tomorrow commemorates the famous ride 250 years later and uses the imagery of two shining lights today as a uniting call for citizens to serve their communities. This national initiative encourages participation from every state and community across the country.
“Overnight on Friday, two lights will shine forth from all statehouses across the country, including Legislative Hall,” Hughes said. “We want everyone across Delaware to place two lights in windows on Friday night and leave them through Saturday. We also hope they join in a day of service and recommit to being a light in their own community.
