Around 200 truck drivers from across the region will gather at the Delaware State Fairgrounds on Saturday, Oct. 4, for the 23rd annual Truck Convoy benefiting Special Olympics Delaware.
The event kicks off with driver check-in at 7:30 a.m., where participants can enjoy breakfast and camaraderie before the convoy departs at 10 a.m. Led by a police escort, the 29-mile scenic ride will wind through Kent County.
The convoy is part of a national initiative that raises funds and awareness for Special Olympics, which provides year-round sports training, competitions, and health programs for thousands of athletes in Delaware.
“This is more than just a parade of big rigs—it’s a powerful symbol of unity and support,” said Lisa Smith, Senior Director of Marketing and Development for Special Olympics Delaware. “Each horn honk and wave from the drivers reminds our athletes that they are celebrated and valued. It’s a day filled with joy, pride, and unforgettable moments shared between the trucking community and our Special Olympics family.”
The event is organized by the Law Enforcement Torch Run ® for Special Olympics Delaware with presenting sponsors Walmart and Perdue. Other supporters include the City of Harrington, Delaware Department of Transportation, Delaware Electric Co-Op, WBOC 16, Delmarva Sports Network, the Delaware State Fair, Sysco, and K & R Concessions and Embroidery.
Trucks will not return to the Fairgrounds following the ride.
