Second Street Players recently announced changes to their 2025 holiday production due to circumstances beyond their control. Instead of a production of “The Homecoming,” the theater group will present “Coney Island Christmas.”
“Those who have purchased tickets for “The Homecoming” can use them for the same dates and seats for “Coney Island Christmas,” a spokesperson for the organization said. “Anyone who wishes to cancel can contact us through our webpage.”
Based on the story “The Loudest Voice” by Grace Paley with a screenplay written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Donald Margulies, “Coney Island Christmas” introduces the audience to Shirley Abramowitz, a young Jewish girl who is cast to play Jesus in her school’s Christmas pageant, much to the dismay of her immigrant parents. The play has Shirley relaying the story to her great-granddaughter many years later and provides insight into what it means to be American during the holidays.
The play is produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc. Second Street Players values diversity and inclusion in casting and in all other areas of production. This show is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on DelawareScene.com.
