Second Street Players will hold open auditions for the fall production of “Little Shop of Horrors,” a cult classic musical known for its quirky humor, catchy score, and bloodthirsty plant with a taste for fame.
Auditions will take place on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26, 2025, beginning at 6:00 p.m. each evening at the Riverfront Theater, located at 2 S. Walnut Street in Milford. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on Sunday, July 27 at 6:00 p.m., also at the Riverfront Theater.
Director Chris Ennis expressed excitement about bringing the offbeat musical to the local stage.
“Little Shop of Horrors is one of those shows that balances horror, heart, and humor in the most unexpected ways,” said Ennis. “We’re looking for performers who are ready to bring energy, creativity, and a touch of the bizarre to our stage.”
Auditioners must sign up for scheduled time slots. Information about time slots, required audition materials, and song cuts from the show can be found on SSP’s Facebook page. Comfortable attire is encouraged, as participants may be asked to learn simple movement routines during auditions.
Video auditions will be accepted for those unable to attend in person. Interested individuals should contact the production team at lsohssp@gmail.com for submission instructions. All cast members must be available for all six performances scheduled for October 10–12 and October 17–19, 2025.
Ennis emphasized the company’s inclusive approach to casting.
“At SSP, we are committed to representing a wide range of voices and backgrounds on stage,” he said. “We encourage everyone who’s interested to audition—no matter their level of experience.”
Little Shop of Horrors follows the story of Seymour Krelborn, a meek flower shop assistant who stumbles upon a strange and powerful plant he names Audrey II. As the plant’s appetite for blood grows, so does Seymour’s dilemma—fame and fortune come at a steep price.
The musical features a book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken. Based on the 1960 film by Roger Corman and the screenplay by Charles Griffith, it is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
This production is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes local arts events on DelawareScene.com.
