
Even though the weather is getting cooler, there are still plenty of outdoors activities at Killen’s Pond State Park during November. Located at 5025 Killen’s Pond Road, the park has programs for all ages.
On November 1 from 11 AM to 12 Noon, learn about shelter building as naturalists provide details on surviving in the wilderness. This program teaches the basics for building a shelter. Attendees are reminded to dress for the outdoors and meet at the Nature Center. This class is designed for all ages and there is a fee fo $6 per person.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of fish through a hands-on study of their internal and external anatomy at an upcoming program at the nature center. On November 8 at 11 AM, the park will offer “Something Fishy: Fish Dissection.” Designed for ages 8 and older, the session offers an engaging look at what makes these aquatic creatures so unique. Pre-registration is required, and online registration closes 22 hours before the program begins.
Hike with a naturalist on November 15 at 11 AM. This month, the hike will be about 1.6 miles and those who wish to attend should meet at the campground. The walk is free with paid park entrance.
Eco-Explorers will love the Scales & Slime: Hop, Slither and Climb event planned for November 20 at 1 PM. This program delves into the differences between reptiles and amphibians, explaining why some are slimy, some are scaly and all other fascinating facts about these creatures. At this event, discover their unique traits, uncover secrets of the herp world and meet animal ambassadors. This is designed for children aged 6 to 12 and there is a $6 fee per child. Adults are free and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
The final program at Killen’s Pond for November is Art in Nature: Tree-Cookie Turkeys planned for November 22 at 11 AM. Join others as they make a turkey out of tree cookies and common things you find in nature. The program meets at the nature center. Online registration ends 22 hours prior to the program.
