February was Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month which led Milford School District Board of Education to recognize students in that pathway at the monthly board meeting. Milford School District had the highest attendance at an advisory meeting on February 10, according to Dr. Kelly Carvajal Hageman, Chief Academic Officer.
“There were eight for that advisory meeting and that included representatives from the Delaware Department of Education and government agencies that came to support and offer their guidance and input on our career and technical education programs,” Carvajal Hageman said. “The engineering pathway generated a lot of community support and opportunities for work-based learning.”
Carvejal Hageman stated that the new Academy of Finance had a very large turnout, led by a new teacher, Leah Dodds. Senator Dave Wilson attended as well, telling those in attendance how proud he was of the Ag students, teachers and the MSD FFA. In addition, the engineering pathway generated a lot of community support and opportunities for work-based learning.
“I also wanted to highlight and lift up the FFA who had their national FFA Week and Green Hands Ceremony on February 19,” Carvejal Hageman said. “Our CTE programs were also highlighted at the 8th grade open house.”
Carvejal Hageman also informed the board that the secondary campus was seeing a reduction in external placement reviews.
“We are very proud of the data that we’re seeing in our secondary campus and the reduction in students being taken to review for external school placements. We have reduced them at MCA from 11 taken at this time last year to this year only four have been taken to meetings for external review,” Carvejal Hageman said. “That is because we’re working very hard with proactive measures to improve student behavior and encourage students to be in school, which is where we need them to be.”
