MPD partners with CVS for drug takeback program

CVS and Milford Police Department are partnering to collect expired or unneeded drugs

The Milford Police Department has partnered with CVS Pharmacy to provide the community with a safe and environmentally responsible way to dispose of unused, unneeded or expired prescription drugs.

A Drug Collection Unit has been placed in the lobby of the police department where community members can place prescription drugs for disposal. CVS Pharmacy will collect the items and dispose of them in an environmentally friendly way. No liquids, aerosols, lotions or sharp objects should be disposed of in the collection unit.

Items that are accepted include prescriptions, prescription patches, prescription medications, prescription ointments, over-the-counter medications, vitamin samples and pet medication.

Dropping medications off at a valid collection unit helps prevent misuse and addiction. Medications thrown in the trash could be accessed by children or removed by those who suffer from addiction. Improper disposal of medication, such as flushing them down the toilet or in a sink drain can contaminate water sources and cause other environmental damage.

Until you can dispose of the medication, be sure to store it in a safe place until you are able to take it to the police station.

The DEA National Drug Take Back Day is April 26, 2025, from 10 AM to 2 PM with another day planned for October.
