Milford Wellness Center is offering Volunteer Lay Leader training November 17, 18, 20 and 21. The program begins at 9 AM and ends at 4 PM. Those who complete the course become certified to teach wellness programs. The training is provided by WeCare at Milford Wellness Village and will be held at 21 West Clarke Street, Milford.
Trainees will be certified as a Lay Leader for the evidence-based Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP). Pre-registration is available online. This is pre-registration only and those who are accepted into the program will receive a link to formally register.
The training includes four-full days and lunch is provided at the event. It is designed to train workshop leaders who will then help older adults manage chronic conditions. There is also a stipend available upon completion of the program.
Once trained you will be qualified to lead the six-week workshops offered to older adults 60+ living with chronic conditions. Workshops are offered in-person and virtually at various sites throughout Delaware and meet weekly for 2 ½ hours over six-weeks.
Lay Leaders help others identify strategies for living with a chronic condition and manage daily symptoms as well as help them add new techniques and activities into a plan for living well. Lay Leaders help others gain a greater sense of self confidence and improve communication with family, friends and health care professionals.
Space is limited so it is recommended those interested register right away. For this training please enter through the Conference Room Entrance. The training will be up the ramp and to your immediate right in the Conference Room. Please bring a sweater as it is often cool in the training rooms.
