As back to school shopping begins, Milford School District reminds parents of the dress code policy for all students. The dress code has relaxed somewhat over the past few years.
Students must wear long or short-sleeved cotton shirts, polos, sweatshirts/hoodies, button downs, fleece, sweaters or turtlenecks. The shirts may be solid colors or patterns, but all must have sleeves. Tank tops and muscle shirts are not permitted. School spirit wear representing the district, a school or a college is not only permitted but encouraged. Scarves, ties and bowties are also acceptable. As a reminder, if a student wears a shirt with a hood, the hood must remain down while inside the school.
Solid color pants, jeans, leggings, joggers, sweatpants, shorts, capris, skorts, skirts, jumpers are dresses are also permitted. All skirts and dresses must be longer than the tip of the fingers at length and may not have slits. All bottoms must be worn at the natural waist.
Shoes, sneakers, boots and sandals are permitted but elementary students must wear closed-toe shoes appropriate for recess, outdoor activities and gym.
Clothing prohibited by the district include crop tops, low-cut shirts, pajamas or gang-related references or identification. Students cannot have skin or undergarments visible between the waistband and the bottom of the shirt. The only graphics should be spirit wear and no sheer or see through materials are permitted.
Holes and frays cannot have skin visible underneath and students may not wear chains or spiked jewelry. Depictions of violence, drug or alcohol use or other illegal activities or references are also forbidden. This includes tobacco, smoking or vaping photos or references. Hats, visors, bandanas, non-prescription sunglasses or head coverings, other than those necessary for religious practices, are not permitted.
