Milford School District is reminding parents of the inclement weather policy with the impending storm expected on Sunday, January 25. The reminder is due to recent changes to the district’s policy.
If school is closed due to the weather, the first day of the closure will be considered a traditional snow day. Students do not report to school and are not required to do any learning activities.
On the second day of school closure for the same weather event, the district will transition to an asynchronous instruction plan. If employees are required to report, they will provide updates, reminders and learning expectations to students and families using the district’s standard communication platform. The district reminds families to be familiar with the communication platform the student’s teacher uses, including Schoology, Talking Points or others.
When the district enters asynchronous learning, there are not live instruction or synchronous activities. Students in grades Kindergarten through nine will bring home a paper-based learning packet designated for use for asynchronous learning at the beginning of each month starting in January and February. Packets for subsequent months will be sent home based on the forecast for any major weather events.
Learning packets can also be found on the district website.
Students in grades 7 through 12 will receive their designated assignments through Schoology.
In addition to these activities, parents are encouraged to have students read a book for a minimum of 30 minutes each day. This could be independent reading or having another family member read to the student, but in all cases, engaging directly with text is the best way to build upon reading and comprehension skills.
The purpose of this plan is to prioritize the safety of students and staff while ensuring that learning continues during extended closures. Information on school closures and the transistion to asynchronous learning as needed will be communicated as quickly as possible through the district’s standard communication outlets including Talking Points and Infinite Campus in addition to social media accounts.
Parents with questions should reach out to their child’s teacher.
