Although most people think of books and magazines when they think of a library, Milford Public Library wants everyone to know they offer much more to the community. Calling themselves the “Library of Things,” the library is reminding everyone that they also lend non-traditional items.
“We have a growing collection of games, tools, kitchen gadgets, hobby equipment, musical instruments and other fun or practical items designed to lower the barrier to trying something new,” Sarah Yatuzis, Assistant Director, said.
Throughout the month of December, the library will showcase a rotating display of these items to help patrons explore what’s available.
“Some items may require a signed waiver, while others have age restrictions due to their potential for accidental misuse,” Yatuzis said. “This is just to ensure the safety of all borrowers.”
Some of the items the library lends include vinyl record players, pickleball balls and paddles as well as telescopes, drills, sewing machines and more.
“The ability to borrow items like a telescope or sewing machine allows you to try something new that could otherwise have been cost-prohibitive,” Yatuzis said. “It is a way for those who may be considering a new hobby practice try out the hobby before they invest a ton of money only to find out they don’t like it. It can also help someone who may not be able to afford a sewing machine use one for a short time to complete a project.”
