On Saturday, April 12 at 1 PM, the Milford Museum will present the next in its American History Series “Lincoln’s Last Hours.” The program will be presented by Kathryn Canavan, an author and freelance reporter, who wrote the book “Lincoln’s Final Hours:  Conspiracy, Terror and the Assassination of America’s Greatest President.”

“This presentation will focus on the perspective of ordinary people who were in the audience at Ford’s Theatre and the fascinating individuals who boarded at the house directly across the street where the president spent his final hours,” Tom Summers, Executive Director of the Milford Museum, said. “Information will be provided on how these people became caught up in the tragedy and had information that Secretary of War Edwin Stanton and the Metropolitan Police did not.”

According to Summers, there is evidence that weeks before the assassination, John Wilkes Booth napped on the same bed where President Lincoln eventually struggled for his life. The presentation tells the tale of ordinary people who were caught up in an extraordinary event – the first presidential assassination.

“Kathy has been published in “USA Today,” “The Philadelphia Enquirer,” “Prevention Magazine,” and more,” Summers said. “She began researching the unintended consequences of Lincoln’s assassination in 2009 and her book uncovers what else was happening inside Petersen’s boardinghouse on the night Lincoln died there.”

The American History Series is sponsored by the Milford Museum and supported by a grant from the Delaware Heritage Commission. Milford Public Library is located at 11 Southeast Front Street in Milford. For more information, contact Summers via email or call 302-424-1080.
