James Anthony “Jimmy” Favata, Sr., known as one of the best masonry craftsmen in the state, passed away on July 11 at the age of 62. Born September 3, 1962, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, Favata was known for his love of family, hard work and simple joys.
Moving to Delaware in 1983, he began working as a tax ditch surveyor for the State of Delaware. After the birth of his son, he decided he wanted more in his career, leading him to masonry. Favata worked as a mason, gaining a reputation for his craftsmanship, integrity and pride. The only thing more important to him than his craft were his family and friends.
When not creating brick or block masterpieces, Favata enjoyed the simple things in life. He spent many weekends with family and friends at dirt track races, cruising around town in his truck and savoring a cup of Wawa coffee. Favata was known for his smile and the stories he shared.
Favata is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Terri Favata, his partner in life and adventure. He is also survived by his son, Tony Favata, who carries forward his father’s strength and hard work. He was “Pop-Pop” to Julia, Dominic and Cameron Favata, who brought him endless joy and laughter. His brothers, Joey and Eddie Favata, also survive him, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. His beloved dog, Max, also survives Favata.
He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Donna Favata; his parents, Joseph E and Margaret P. Schaeffer Favata; and his mother-in-law, Mickey Mateo.
“His legacy of hard work, generosity and humor will live on through all who knew him,” his obituary read. “He was the kind of man who would lend a hand without being asked, crack a joke at just the right moment and remind us all to enjoy the little things. Jimmy touched the lives of many and will be missed beyond words. May his memory be a blessing, and his spirit live on in the stories we tell and the lives he built.”
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 20 at Roger’s Funeral Home. A viewing will take place from 11 AM to 1 PM, immediately followed by a funeral service. Burial will be at Lincoln Cemetery at 2 PM.
