One of the best things about volunteering for the Milford Garden Club is that you get to play in the dirt, but that is not the only benefit. MGC also provides beautiful decorations at many different locations throughout Milford.
“We plant flowers at the Delaware Veteran’s Home and assist with other Community Garden projects in the area,” Linda McDevitt, Marketing Chair, said. “We also share our home-grown plants and gardening tips at festivals as well as the Riverwalk Farmer’s Market.”
Other projects MGC undertakes each year is community service at the Milford Library and providing Garden Therapy at Milford Place. On October 16 and 23, MGC will work on Community Garden projects and on November 6, fall planting at the Delaware Veteran’s Home will take place. On December 6, they will decorate the Parson Thorne Mansion in holiday greenery using greenery that fits a period of the home. On December 11, the group will offer Horticultural Therapy at Milford Place.
“We love to use our skills and experience to create floral arrangements,” McDevitt said. “We also attend state, regional or national conferences to develop new skills and partnerships. We welcome visitors, program speakers and members of other garden clubs at our meetings. As a member, you can also go on field trips to learn various ways to protect our environment and preserve resources. MGC attends and hosts flower shows which explore concepts of floral design, garden trends, horticulture and more.”
The Milford Garden Club meets the first Wednesday of each month at the Milford Parks and Recreation building located at 207 Franklin Street. Meetings begin with social time at 9 AM wit the meeting running from 9:30 to 11 AM.
