Friday night, Milford hosted St. Mark’s in their eighth game of the season. In a game in which Milford never seemed to get it going, starting with the game’s first drive. Milford turned the ball over and St. Mark’s scooped it up for a touchdown, giving them the early lead. They would go on to beat the Bucs 30-0. While Milford was not inept, they made several mental mistakes, including three consecutive false starts on offense as they were unable to sustain drives throughout the game.
On defense, Milford played well for the most part. However, several missed assignments resulted in big plays for the visitors. The end result would be another loss for the Buccaneers, dropping them to 2-6 on the season. As disconcerting as the Milford miscues were, it is clear to see what lies ahead if Milford stays the course. The coaches are instructing and the players are learning so it is important to remember this is about the future. Speaking with coach Rod Milstead, he believes the team is getting closer.
“Change rarely happens over night. Our guys are trying, they are just making mistakes. It takes time for players to adjust to a system. While we are not where we want to be yet, we are going to get there.”
