The signs of construction appeared in front of Redner’s recently with the installation of black construction fencing. The site will be the location of a new Mavis Discount Tire Center which received preliminary conditional use approval in January 2025.
“This will be a 6,979 square foot building that will be used as an automotive repair business,” Rob Pierce, City Planner, said. “It is located along 113 just south of the entrance of Cypress Hall. The business will actually gain access on the service road known as Lexus Drive.”
According to Pierce, the plans met all the requirements of city code as well as construction standards. There were some stipulations that all automotive repair businesses must meet, and Pierce stated that the company had met those requirements.
“This project itself has been before Planning Commission and council before back in 2019,” Jonathan Richards, an engineer with Becker Morgan Group, said. “But with COVID, it kind of did not allow this project to move forward. Now, we are returning to council with the project again.”

Councilman Dan Marabello asked how many jobs would be created with the new facility and Richards stated that it would likely be between 13 and 15.
Mavis Discount Tire originated in 1949 as Vic’s Cycle Shop, opened by Victor Sorbaro in Millwood, New York. Initially, the business focused on bicycles, but their reputation for trustworthiness and quality grew rapidly. Realizing there was a need for additional services in his community, Sorbaro expanded to tire services, laying the groundwork for what would become Mavis Tire.
By the 1970s, the name Mavis Tire had become synonymous with exceptional tire and automotive services, leading to the company’s rebranding with that name. Today, the company stands on the principals established by Sorbaro almost 80 years ago.
Council approved the request unanimously. There were no details on the opening date for the new location.
