On the first Friday of each month, Milford Advocacy for the Homeless holds a virtual round table discussion. Part of the virtual meeting includes a speaker series entitled “Together We Serve.” This month’s featured speaker is Giovanni Otero, Code Purple Coordinator and member of Love INC of Mid-Delmarva. The meeting is scheduled for November 7 at 8 AM.
“We’re excited to keep building bridges between service providers, local residents and advocates through “Together We Serve,” Martha Gery, founder of MAH, said. “The program allows us to elevate the work of so many local heroes while also informing and inspiring the public to take part in meaningful community action.”
Otero is the Community Relations Director at Love INC of Mid-Delmarva as well as a volunteer for Code Purple. He is passionate about mobilizing churches to transform lives and communities. Otero consistently looks for ways to serve the community holisitically, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, whether that is providing food thorugh the Love INC pantry or praying for neighbors in need.
Love INC participates in Code Purple which provides nighttime shelter for homeless neighbors during the winter months. Shelters open December 1 and run through March 15. Code Purple is activated when temperatures drop below 20 degrees in New Castle County, 32 degrees in western Sussex and 10 degrees in other areas of the state. To find Code Purple locations during severe weather, call or text 2-1-1.
The ”Together We Serve” series is free and open to the public. The link to the virtual meeting can be found by clicking here, visiting the MAH website or on Facebook. You can also email Ruth Behrens or call 302-228-8541.
