If you’re in or near Milford and looking to get some fresh air and steps before (or after) your holiday feasting, there are a few great “Turkey Trot”-style runs and walks within easy driving distance over the period from Friday, November 28 through Sunday, November 30. Here are a few of the most accessible and fun ones, plus what you should know to go.
The Rehoboth Beach Country Club on West Side Drive will hold an Eagle Foundation Turkey Trot on Friday, November 28 starting at 9:30 AM. It is a 5k run, one-mile walk and a “Kiddie K.” The race is designed for families, serious runners and casual runners. The course has been described as a fun, family-friendly option along Bald Eagle Point and a post-race celebration at the club. The kid’s dash is a great way to introduce children to running. Register here.

Sea Colony in Bethany Beach will also hold a Turkey Trot 5k Run/Walk on Sunday, November 30 starting at 9 AM. The race begins at the Sea Colony Fitness Center at 38994 Westway Drive and is a 5k run or walk. Proceeds support Special Olympics Delaware and Delaware Womande, which supports women and children impacted by domestic violence. Early registrants receive a free race t-shirt. There are age-group awards and post-race refreshments. Cost is $30 for pre-registration until November 29 and $35 on race day. Same day registration is from 7:30 AM to 8:45 AM. Register here.
Although the races are about a half hour from Milford, they are a great way to get out and run off the big holiday meal. The Eagle Foundation Trot is a family-friendly event while the Sea Colony event blends a scenic coastal run with a charitable cause.
Remember to dress warmly as the weather is expected to be much cooler over the weekend than it has been in recent weeks.
