
Milford Public Library offers more than just books for adults and children. They also offer unique programs that encourage people to learn, play and socialize. In October, the library will offer many fun programs for young and old.
“Not only do we offer great programs, but we are also the Library of Things,” Lea Rosell, Director, said. “You can check out a wide range of items with your library card. Do you need a pasta maker? We can help you! Have you wanted to try pickleball but don’t want to invest in equipment? No need, because the library can provide it!”
On Friday, October 3 at 1 PM, Homeschool Hour takes place at the library with artist Michael Fleishman who will conduct Spooky Collaborative Drawing and Collage. Add a unique touch to a giant work of art that will be displayed in the Children’s Wing. Participants work together to create a scene that tells a spooky story. Space is limited, so registration is required.
“Toddlers and their caregivers are invited to Toddler Time on Tuesday, October 7 at 10:30 AM,” Rosell said. “Each session begins with a singing circle and ends with sensory bins, musical instruments or toddler friendly toys. Our teen program for children 12 to 18 will offer Spooky Terrariums that day at 4 PM. Use colorful, creepy themed decorations and dead plants to create a scary terrarium. All supplies are provided, and the workshop is led b Heather Capezio, owner of Paint & Create. No registration is necessary.”
Drums Alive is a fun, high-energy cardio drumming class suitable for everyone. Drumsticks are used to hit an exercise ball, led by upbeat music and the activity can be completed both seated or standing. Rosell reminds everyone to bring a bottle of water. Registration is required.
“We will hold a Job Fair on Thursday, October 9 at 2 PM,” Rosell said. “This is in partnership with the Delaware Department of Labor and is designed to help job seekers find employment opportunities. Be sure to bring copies of your resume. We will also celebrate Banned Books that day at 4:30 PM. Read a passage from your favorite banned book with discussion on book banning after. Refreshments will be provided but be sure to let us know if you have food allergies when you register.”
Those who are curious about permanent jewelry can learn more from Britnie, owner of Bonded by Britnie. She will discuss the basics of permanent jewelry and answer any questions on October 10 at 3 PM. That same day at 2 PM, make a one-of-a-kind Halloween decoration by painting ghosts into vintage prints. All material provided but you can bring art from home. Registration is required for the ghost painting, but not for permanent makeup.
“The Milford Museum will continue their American History Series with “The End of McCarthyism,” on October 11 at 1 PM,” Rosell said. “Our Cookbook Club meets October 13 at 4:30 PM. This month we will use “Fix it and Forget It” by Phyllis Good. Stop by the circulation desk and pick up your recipe. Make the dish and bring it to share! Registration is required.”
On Tuesday, October 14, stop by the library between 3 and 6:30 PM to decorate a pumpkin. Smocks, pumpkins and other decorations will be provided while supplies last. You can even bring your own pumpkin if you choose. On Wednesday, October 15 at 3:30 PM, channel your spooky energy into monstrous keychain creations with Franken-bubus. Teens will dissect plushies and reassemble those parts into a unique keychain plush. Registration is required.
“Max Fleishman will be on hand October 18 at 11 AM to lead teens through the different techniques of game art and design,” Rosell said. “Each teen will create and design their own character from scratch. This event is suitable for children aged 8 to 12 and registration is required.”
Learn to plan, prepare and problem-solve to create a work of art at the Tween Bead Curtain Craft event on October 21 at 5:30 PM. Use a premade pattern or create your own using grid paper. All supplies provided and the event is suitable for children aged 9 to 12. On October 24 at 2 PM, learn how to make a toilet paper pumpkin. No sewing skills are necessary, and all materials are provided, but participants an bring a fat quarter (18”x22”) of their choice. Registration is required.
“This is a great way to celebrate National Cookie Month,” Rosell said. “On October 28 at 4:30 PM, teens are challenged to taste ten different cookies and guess their country of origin. The teen who guesses the most cookies correctly gets a prize. Please call Amanda at 302-412-4395 to report any food allergies.”
On October 30 at 5:30 PM, Bill Hughes will host Halloween BINGO. Play a funny, Halloween related BINGO game and win prizes, Rosell commented. Space is limited so registration is required. As a reminder, Children’s Story Time is held every Thursday at 10:30 AM and Chair Yoga for adults is held every Tuesday at 2 PM.
