Milford Public Library has announced their December programs with options that educate, help you get fit and some designed simply to have fun. There is something for all ages, from small children to adults.
Adults can work on fitness with chair yoga every Monday and Wednesday at 3:15 PM. Chair yoga can be done while seated or standing, using a chair for support. It enhances flexibility, concentration, balance and strength while boosting mood, reducing stress and alleviating joint strain. Register for each class individually.
On Monday, December 8, join the Cookbook Club, exploring, discovering and sharing with friends. Each month, a cookbook is selected, and each participant selects a recipe to prepare and share at the following meeting. December’s cookbook is: The Cookie Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum. Registration is required. To register, stop by the circulation desk and choose a recipe from this month’s featured cookbook. A copy of your selected recipe will be provided for you to take home. The Milford Public Library will provide paper plates, plastic ware, disposable cups, bowls, and bottled water. Please bring a serving spoon for your dish. Milford Public Library cannot guarantee that food served at this program has not come into contact with nuts, soy, or other allergens.
Cardio Drumming will be held December 10 at 2:30 PM with Drums Alive. This is a fun, high-energy cardio activity suitable for all. Use drumsticks to hit an exercise ball with upbeat music. A bottle of water is recommended, and registration is required.
Teens will enjoy the last-minute gifts extravaganza on December 9 at 4 PM. The program has teens stopping by to create gifts for those on their list. They can create customized mugs, hot chocolate bombs, assemble soup to-do kits, make friendship bracelets and more. All materials are provided.
The library will offer a teen writer workshop on December 10 at 4 PM. Teens focus on their latest creations while brainstorming with fellow writers. Refreshments provided. The library does ask that teens be respectful of noise levels for writers to better focus.
The library is excited to host the My Hero Academia Series Finale party on December 11 at 4:30 PM. There will be MHA-themed refreshments, a scavenger hunt, games, crafts and reading manga. One person will win a copy of the latest volume of My Hero Academia. Staff should be alerted to any allergies in advance.
On December 17, teens can decorate a gingerbread cookie for a chance to win prizes. Patrons will be given 30 minutes to decorate a blank gingerbread cookie with prizes awarded to first, second and third place winners. Even if a teen does not win the top prize, they get to enjoy a delicious gingerbread cookie. All materials provided.
On Thursday, December 18, teens can enjoy pizza and paperbacks. No registration is required. This event occurs on the third Thursday of every month.
On December 20 at noon, wear your ugly Christmas sweater to the library and enjoy hot beverages and warm pastries while playing games and making winter-themed crafts. Teens will vote on who has the ugliest sweater at the end of the event and the winner will receive a prize. Please let staff know of any allergies prior to attending.
Of course, the library has many children’s programs planned this month as well. Weekly Story Time is every Thursday at 10:30 AM. On December 10 at 5:30 PM, children can decorate gingerbread houses. Registration is required.
On December 18 at 10:30 AM, join the library for a special Santa Story Time with the Jolly Old Elf himself. Children should wear their cutest holiday outfits for festive fun. There will be jolly songs, Christmas stories and the children will make holiday crafts. They can also get a photo with Santa.
Meet the Grinch on December 20 at 11 AM and hear the story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. On December 22, children can honor one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa by making a corn wreath.
