Recently, Kent Sussex Industries received a $2,000 grant from the Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club which will be used for music instruction. There is significant research that music instruction offers benefits by providing sensory simulations that provide feelings of physical, emotional and social wellbeing.

“We will be offering this to participants in KSI’s Life Enrichment, Pre-Vocational and Explore programs,” Alicia Hollis, Director of Community Relations, said.

According to the American Music Therapy Association, music therapy supports connections between speech and singing, rhythm and motor behavior and memory for recall and retention of academic material.

“Music therapy is an invaluable tool with many of our rehabilitation patients,” Matthew Lee of the Rusk Institute, said. “There is no question that the relationship of music and medicine will blossom because of the advent of previously unavailable techniques that can now show the effects of music.”

KSI is a not-for-profit agency that provides vocational training, employment, community integration, transportation, day habilitation, life enrichment and nutritional services to individuals with disabilities throughout Kent and Sussex Counties.

To learn more about KSI, contact Michelle Cain, Director of Funding Opportunities & Board Relations by calling 302-422-4014 or visit their website.
