Milford Public Library announced their July programs this week and the offerings demonstrate that it is a “library for everyone, today and tomorrow.” The month began with moss art with Heather Capezio on July 1 and Music in the Park in the amphitheater on July 2.
“July 8 at 2 PM, we will offer “Fill Your Cup,” with Courageous Hearts,” Lea Rosell, Executive Director of the library said. “It is an afternoon of mindfulness and calm with self-care routines taught to parents and children. The same day at 4:30 PM, we will offer a watercolor workshop for teens with Kass from kash co studio that is great for beginners and experienced artists.”
Whether you are a beginner or professional, Line Dancing with Lisa is a great time. Offered from July 10 through the 31 at 5:45 PM, learn some of the most popular line dances. Lisa breaks down the routines, so they are easy to understand, offering a great way to exercise, enjoy music and connect with the community.
“The Milford Museum American History Series continues with a presentation on Pickett’s Charge on July 12 at 1 PM,” Rosell said. “Then, on July 15 at 1:30 PM, Rebecca Walsen from the Mispillion Art League will teach Bead and Wire Sculpture for children where they will learn to create unique abstract sculptures using beads, wire and. Natural artifacts that they will take home.”
Starting July 15 and running through July 29, experts from DiPietro Law will lead an informational series on Estate Planning at 2 PM. The first session covers the basics while the second covers what probate law is and how to avoid it. The final session covers planning for long-term care.
“Katherine Heisler of heisk will lead a program on embroidery basics for teens on July 16 at 3 PM,” Rosell said. “She will provide instruction on how to prepare the hoop, separating floss and common stitches used in embroidery. This is a beginner class, so no prior experience is necessary.”
The Science of Color in Nature will be offered July 17 at 11 AM for children who will learn about rainbows, prisms, camouflage and more. The Delaware AeroSpace Education Foundation will lead the class where students will color stained glass designs, use color paddles and gain a more in-depth understanding of color. This program is made possible, in part, by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, an organization that has since lost funding.
“We are excited to bring our popular Scavenger Hunt to the summer months,” Rosell said. “On Saturday, July 19 at 11 AM, children begin at the library to get their first clue and a piece of string,” Rosell said. “I know, getting a piece of string sounds odd, but it will all make sense as kids follow the clues through downtown businesses, including the Milford Museum, the Farmacy, North Pole Creamery and more to find special beads. Collect them all to reveal a secret message. All children receive a keepsake to take home.”
On July 22 at 1 PM, the Brandywine SPCA, a no-kill shelter will be on hand to help children make a pet toy for one of their shelter dogs. All materials are provided, and no registration is necessary. On July 24 at 2 PM, learn how to create an anime glass painting. Choose an anime character or scene, follow a custom template and create painted glass art. At 5 PM on the same day, Michael Fleishman of Mispillion Art League will present Collaborative Collage and Drawing for children where they work together to create a piece of art.
“Our final program of July is our Delaware Authors Sign and Sell event,” Rosell said. “Planned for July 26 at 11 AM, local authors will be on hand to sign their books which are available for purchase.”
