Tracey Johnson, 28, of Harrington, was arrested in Bridgeville for gun and drug offenses following a pursuit by officers. Also arrested with Johnson was Joseph Davis, 26, of Georgetown.
According to Delaware State Police, on July 30 at around 3 PM, members of the Sussex County Governor’s Task Force saw a black Dodge Charger with a registration violation traveling northbound on Coverdale Road near Seashore Highway. A traffic stop was initiated and it was discovered two males were occupants of the vehicle. However, the vehicle failed to stop and traveled on Seashore Highway at a high rate of speed.
Because the vehicle was driving recklessly, police halted the pursuit in order to protect other motorists. An investigation led the Kent County Governor’s Task Force to respond to the address of the registered owner of the Dodge Charger which was on Genesis Lane in Harrington. Upon arrival, detectives saw two men, identified as Johnson and Davis, attempting to cover the Dodge with a tarp.
Detectives made contact with the two men and witnessed Davis place an item under a landscaping trailer. The two men were detained without incident. The investigation revealed that Johnson was the driver of the vehicle and Davis the passenger. A search of the vehicle revealed 1.95 grams of heroin and, while searching Johnson, found the keys to the Dodge.
An additional search, which included the area under the landscaping trailer, found a loaded 9mm handgun with an extended magazine; sawed off .12-gauge shotgun; several rounds of .12-gauge ammunition; an AR-15 upper receiver and magazine; several rounds of 5.56 and .38 ammunition; approximately 27.67 grams of acetaminophen; approximately 10.70 grams of a combination xylazine/acetaminophen mixture; and digital scales.
Johnson, who is a person prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition, was charged with possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony; possession of a firearm or destructive weapon by someone previously convicted of a violent felony; possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited who also possesses a controlled substance; possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited prior violent crime or felony; possession of a destructive weapon – sawed off shotgun; possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, tiers 1 and 3; Conspiracy in the second degree; disregarding a police officer’s signal; resisting arrest; possession of drug paraphernalia; reckless driving; driving while suspended or revoked; expired or invalid temporary registration; and multiple traffic violations.
Arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, Johnson was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $89,500 cash bond.
Davis, who is a person prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition, was charged with possession of a large capacity firearm in the commission of a felony; possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony; possession of a deadly weapon semi auto or auto by a person prohibited who also possesses controlled substance; possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited prior conviction of use, possession or sale of drugs; possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited prior violent crime or felony; possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance, tier 1 and 3; tampering with physical evidence; hindering prosecution, the acts delayed prevented or hindered discovery conspiracy second degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Davis was also arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $109,500 cash bond.
